Existential Vs Preserved by Extensions, and Other Syntax/semantics Correspondences

چکیده
We look at various preservation theorems of classical logic ((rst of all, Los-Tarski theorem) which fail in the context of nite models , and examine the extent of their failure. In some cases, even if the old correspondence between syntactical and semantical properties does not hold, one can nd a new semantical counterpart for the syntacti-cal property, and vice versa-a new syntactical counterpart for the semantical property.

Syntax vs. Semantics on Finite Structures
Logic preservation theorems often have the form of a syntax/semantics correspondence. For example, the Los-Tarski theorem asserts that a rst-order sentence is preserved by extensions if and only if it is equivalent to an existential sentence. Many of these correspondences break when one restricts attention to nite models. In such a case, one may attempt to nd a new semantical characterization o...
متن کاملReverse Engineering of Network Software Binary Codes for Identification of Syntax and Semantics of Protocol Messages
Reverse engineering of network applications especially from the security point of view is of high importance and interest. Many network applications use proprietary protocols which specifications are not publicly available. Reverse engineering of such applications could provide us with vital information to understand their embedded unknown protocols. This could facilitate many tasks including d...
متن کاملFrom Natural Language to RDF Graphs with Pregroups
We define an algorithm translating natural language sentences to the formal syntax of RDF, an existential conjunctive logic widely used on the Semantic Web. Our translation is based on pregroup grammars, an efficient type-logical grammatical framework with a transparent syntax-semantics interface. We introduce a restricted notion of side effects in the semantic category of finitely generated fr...
متن کاملAsserting the Correctness of Software Language Translations
While building a new language, we assign its semantics by mapping its syntax onto a semantic domain. To do so, we can either (i) do it operationally, by means of small-step morphisms within the same semantic-domain; or (ii) by means of a translation (syntax-to-syntax transformation), onto a target language that has already an operational semantics defined. Despite the fact that it is possible t...
متن کاملBi-approximation Semantics for Substructural Logic at Work
In this paper, we introduce bi-approximation semantics, a two-sorted relational semantics, via the canonical extension of lattice expansions. To characterise Ghilardi and Meloni’s parallel computation, we introduce doppelgänger valuations which allow us to evaluate sequents and not only formulae. Moreover, by introducing the bi-directional approximation and bases, we track down a connection to ...
